ANTI SOCIALS 1st Demo — Reimagined
Back in 1989, ANTI SOCIALS appeared on the Atari ST.
It was made by friends, for fun, with no grand plan behind it. Sammi Curr on the code, Alba of the ST Squad on graphics, music ripped by the Almighty Colin, and a scroll text that proudly pointed out the whole thing was only 36K.
A lot has changed since then.
Computers changed. Screens changed. Music changed. Floppy disks became something you explain to younger people.
But the urge to make something just because you can never really went away.
So, 37 years later, I decided to reimagine it.
This isn’t intended to be an exact remake. It’s more like taking the memory of that original demo and turning the volume back up.
The new version keeps the things that made those old demos feel special: a big logo, music, an equalizer, scrolling text, ridiculous movement, little hidden touches and absolutely no reason for any of it to exist beyond the fact that it’s fun.
There’s also a 1989 button hidden inside the demo which opens the original version, so the old and new can sit side by side.
And behind all of it is a nod to The Merry England, where Sammi lived and where a lot of those late nights happened — playing Speedball and later Lotus Turbo Esprit Challenge, watching VHS films, messing around with computers and rocking.
That part felt important to keep.
